Geographical location:
Croatia extends from the east end of Alps on the north-west and from the Pannonian plain on the east across the Dinara mountains in the middle part to the Adriatic coast on the south of the country.

The area of land:
56.542 km2, the area of the territorial sea is 31.067 km2.

The number of inhabitants:
4.381.352

The capital:
Zagreb with 770.058 inhabitants – economic, traffic, cultural and scientific center of the country.

The length of the coast:
5835 km – of which 4057 km of island coast, reefs and rocks. The number of islands, reefs and rocks: 1185. The biggest islands are Krk and Cres. The 67 islands are inhabited.

Climate:
The continental climate prevails on the north part of Croatia, the mountain climate prevails in the central part of the country, and the Mediterranean climate is dominant on the coast. The winter temperatures are between –1 and 30 degrees C in the continental region, between –5 and 0 degrees C in the mountain regions and between 5 and 10 degrees C on the coast.
The summer temperatures are between 22 and 26 degrees C in the continental region, between 15 and 20 degrees C in the mountain region and between 26 and 30 degrees C on the coast.

The national structure:
The biggest part of the inhabitants is of Croat origin. The national minorities are represented by: Serbs, Hungarians, Czeches, Slovaks, Italians and the other.

The official language and letter:
Croatian language and Latin letters.

Religions:
The greatest part of the inhabitants are Roman catholic, a lesser part are Orthodox, muslims and other various religions.
